3D recording of historic monuments

In London this weekend is a conference and the launch of the CyArk Project which plans to record 3D images of the world’s major monuments, especially those which are under threat of damage or destruction. This will be both a fantastic research and educational resource but also is already proving its use in restoration.  Of the 500 planned, 40 have been completed across the world ranging from the Tower of London to the Sydney Opera House with sites such as the Antonine Wall in Scotland and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Beth Sholom Synagogue.  It will be worth watching this site as the project progresses and also how 3D technology will further progress recording and making available cultural assets from across the globe to a wider audience.
