The architects Pelli Clarke Pelli have achieved the first BREEAM Outstanding Certification for sustainable design for an Office Tower in China.
No. 1 Shanghai, a 180m tall, 34 storey commercial tower developed by the Shanghai International Shipping Service Centre (SISSC), who will locate their headquarters there has achieved the first BREEAM Outstanding design rating for sustainability along with level three of China’s 3 Star Green Building standard.
The building is the anchor of the regeneration of the old docklands on the on the Huangpu River in Shanghai into a commercial and marina development and will provide over 64,000 sq m of floor space. It uses water from the Huangpu River for its water source heat pump and ice storage cooling systems and its design seeks to minimise energy and water consumption. The regeneration of the site creates a new public green space to be landscaped with indigenous tree and plant species.
