I’m not quite sure how I get there or what to expect, but Elon Musk has plans and architects including Foster + Partners, Hassell, SEArch+ and others have been designing community building and homes along with robots to build them and clothes designed by Raeburn.
The Design Museum’s new exhibition explores the history of our fascination with Mars and Martians which goes back many centuries and in modern times has featured in literature, comics and films.
The terrain and atmosphere of Mars is not pleasant, no matter how romantic the idea of living there might seem. Think of living in the Sahara Desert, but with a touch of snow. Mars, with its inhospitable climate, is not a place to plan to live in without careful consideration, both in terms of the long journey there and how to survive in an environment where plants for food, for example, will have to be grown in special facilities as the environment outside is too harsh. And, the question of where to find water…
However, perhaps some day, these imaginative ideas may come to fruition – as long as the Martian do not come here first!
