Proposals have just been published for a new Crystal Palace to be built in south London on the site of the old one which burnt down in 1936. With a fair wind, work would start on site around 80 years after that event. The project will create a new cultural centre, with catering and conference areas and will house Ni Zhaoxing’s extensive art collection, which includes works dating back 3,000 years.
Ni Zhaoxing told a press conference this morning he wants to create an “art palace” for London. “This project will restore Crystal Palace to its former glory, combining art, history and culture.”
“It is like I am painting a tree in the park – the fruits of which the local community, myself, London and the UK will all enjoy.”
