The Longest Emboidered Tapestry in the World

The Great Tapestry of Scotland goes on display in the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh tomorrow.  The project was developed by Scottish writer Alexander McCall Scott, artist Andrew Crummy and historical writer Alistair Moffat and involved hundreds of volunteer stitchers to create the longest embroidered tapestry in the world at 143 metres long, which is double the length of the famous and historic Bayeux Tapestry. Stitching began in the Spring of 2012. Each panel is a approximately a metre square and took at least 500 hours to complete.  This ambitious project, which has yet to find a permanent home, depicts the history of Scotland from earliest times to the 21st century.
