At the edge is blackness, but the pictures comes alive as you move into towards the centre. Why would you buy a camera when smartphone technology is developing in leaps and bounds and you can achieve such defined, detailed and deep photographs on your phone?
Paola Ismene from Mexico studied Communication Sciences and Photography. As winner of the #SelfExpression Competition at the Saatchi Gallery in 2017, she is now back with her own exhibition, sponsored by Huawei whose smartphone, with Leica lens technology, Paola used for her photographs of everyday life in Mexico, with a real focus on the details, of light and of textures and graphics, with people standing and sitting as players in her overall scenes.
By sheer coincidence, on the evening of the private view there was a television programme on American artists including Norman Rockwell and Edward Hopper and you can see links between the way that they depicted different views of American life with the Paola’s photographs of aspects of life in Mexico.
