The Lightbox has been running the Young Curators programme since 2006 for young people aged 13 to 19 who are interested in art and would like to learn more about how museums and galleries work, perhaps considering a future career in the arts.
The Young Curators who participated this year had four sessions with artist Stuart Simler to each create an original artwork, which they then curated as a display at the entrance to the ‘Warhol and the World of Pop Art’ exhibition. The Young Curators have taken inspiration from the artists and the artworks in the exhibition to create their own personal view, in a display where their individual works stand alone in their own right and also contribute to an overall curated display.
Supported by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, the results are impressive and a credit to everyone who took part. Hopefully the Young Curators will now go onto great things in the art world.
