Art today comes in so many forms, whether full gallery installations or using modern materials such as plexiglass that is a joy to see an exhibition that celebrates the importance of painting as a medium and technique for contemporary art. Rook and Raven has sprung out of its gallery in Rathbone Place in London into the Lloyds Club in the City with the group show “Infero” which examines the importance of painting in contemporary art through the work of nine artists from Britain, Tahnee Lonsdale, Laurence Owen, Camilla Emson, Lucy Farley, Venessa Jackson, Dale Marshall, Corine Felgate and, from Latin America, the Argentinian artist Manuel Larralde and Venzeluan painter Lucia Vera who is now based in New York and London.
A variety of works, mostly abstract – no traditional landscapes or portraits here – set against the muted panelled walls of the Lloyd’s Club, that explore different aspects of geometry, colour, light and shadow and composition in the traditional medium of paintings.
