Estapone is a charming town along the coast from Marbella and has been a port since Roman times. From there you can see the Rock of Gibraltar. Its central square is surrounded by narrow streets of white-washed houses, decorated with geraniums and other plants. The bullring was built almost two centuries after the one in Ronda and is entirely different, with the exterior forms and colour relecting the simplicity of the local white-washed architecture. Built in 1972, the unique design of asymmetrical curves is by Juan Moro Urbano and is landscaped externally to allow access to the upper terraces without using steps. The bullring also houses the Municipal Museums of Bullfighting and a Museum of Agriculture, Fossils and Archaeology
There are still a few bullfights each year and the bullring is also used as a concert venue for pop concerts during the summer months.
In January 14 at 12 the museums in the bullring will host an exhibition of the ‘Bullfighting Paintings’ by José Salguero Duarte, inspired by the world of bullfighting, one of the main interests of this journalist, painter and poet.
