Art of a different sort has arrived in New Bond Street in London.
After 14 months with the building covered in a pink leather-effect hoarding, Louis Vuitton has opened its totally-refurbished New Bond Street store, redesigned by rebellious New York architect Peter Marino around a new sensuous spiral staircase that enables the floors to flow one into another with a blaze of colour and of art. Given the support for the arts of the owner, this is a great and appropriate combination. Perhaps other retailers need to learn from this. Shoppers in 2020 will want to feel immersed in a great environment, not wandering around past piles of products and grumpy shop assistants. Shopping needs to become an enjoyable experience. There will be winners and losers in this battle…..
Is this the future of retailing – more about lifestyle than shopping?
