How can designers respond to the new 21st century social and environmental issues? The recent exhibition from students across the different design courses at Central Saint Martin’s in the Lethaby Gallery at King’s Cross showed a selection of student projects responding to issues as wide ranging as improving urban communities, supporting local communities, creating fashion and jewellery from recycled materials, reusing redundant materials from bicycles, bringing back architecture and design to public toilets (think of those cast iron 19th century examples, most of which are now closed and improving the use of public spaces, to make them real community assets.
Crackling with style and creativity, these students show new ideas for the future, if only we will embrace them….
