Continuing the exploration across London for Condo 2020 takes the explorer from Soho across Oxford Street to Pilar Corrias which is hosting the Matthew Brown Gallery from Los Angeles showing work by American artist Sedrick Chisom as he explores the future alongside Greek artist Sofia Mitsola’s bold simple works in ‘Darladildada’, with a delightful discovery of a painting by Australian artist Helen Johnson from Pilar Corias’ last exhibition and which shows the difference a couple of decades makes in terms of artistic development and refinement.
A joy of Eastcastle Street is the two art galleries Pilar Corrias and Pi Artworks being adjacent to each other, so it was possible to add another country to the exploration, with South African artist Selma Parlour’s glowing, colourful, geometric works – almost architectural in form – in her exhibition ‘Activities for the Abyss’.
Her fascinating works are aided by the use of technology that gives them such precision – a laser engraving machine, an old duplicator and an old industrial coding machine, but you wouldn’t know it – Selma obviously remains very much in charge.
These two galleries continue to show a range of innovative international work in London.
