Every inch of wall has been covered, from top to bottom, from wall to wall. Artist France Lise-McGurn born 1983, from Glasgow has taken over one the the rooms in Tate Britain with colourful romantically-intertwined couples and groups in ‘Sleepness’.
France Lise-McGurn’s specially-commissioned work represents the closeness, intimacy, intertwining and sexual electricity of young people living and partying in the city, especially in the summer sun.
The title is taken from the film ‘Sleepless in Seattle’, which came out in 1993 when Lise-McGurn was only 10 years old, though I’m not sure how often Glasgow weather (generally raining) would support the lively times that Lise-McGurn shows in her paintings – it feels more like sunny Spain.
