The scaffolding came down from the entrance of Sotheby’s at the beginning of October to reveal the results of their recent refurbishment, giving them a more contemporary reception, entrance and cafe. Inside they too were showing work for their auctions of modern and contemporary art, perhaps bolder and with more artists from the USA than Christie’s, though inevitably some of the same artists are repeated.
If you are feeling wealthy, you can buy Banksy’s painting ‘Devolved Parliament’ – estimate £1.5 to £2 million, set against green benches from the House of Commons. I’ll let you form your view on how more appropriate the work is in 2019, a decade after he painted it….
