Travelling along the Grand Canal in the vaporetta, clinging onto the rail along with the other tourists so you can take in the sights, you spot hints of colourful sculptures peeking out behind the bushes and trees of the gardens past the Arsenale, somewhere to walk back to on your way back to St Mark’s Square when you have had a day’s exploration of the Art Biennale in the Guardini (even in the rain).
The Giardini della Marinaressa, created in the 1930′s to create green spaces on former ship-building areas, has been transformed into a sculpture park by the European Cultural Centre as one of its three Biennale locations on the theme of Personal Structures – Identities with a host of artists including Idan Zareski, Laurence Jenkell and Carole Feverman with her swimming/diving figures – highly appropriate for Venice, while in one of the two gardens there is also a pavilion with further works inside.
