Sometimes with art you have to look at the detail and the amount of work that has gone into it.   Often, as you look hard, it is surprising to see how much detail and how much work has gone into the artworks – and Susilia’s work falls into this category.  It must be so easy for Damien Hirst – he just buys lots of butterflies, but if you are working in card, with each insect created independently, then you have put a huge amount of dedicated work into your art.

It’s not just insects, Susilia is still exploring pop art and. with the addition of Swarovski crystals to many of her works, she is obviously trying to move into a different world.  I wouldn’t know a Swarovski crystal if I saw one – but a diamond for the next show would raise the wow factor….along with an Art Deco theme.
