I don’t understand why the Government messes around with plastics and their environmental impact. It seems to be very simple – the Government should legislate that all plastic is recyclable – that would get round the problems of what to recycle and what not to do, including black plastics, so beloved of food manufacturers. The gardening industry is trying to develop a grey plastic plant pot that is recyclable, as opposed to the old black ones, and Waitrose is aiming to remove all non-recyclable materials. Others should follow….
Post consumer plastic – or recycled plastic – is the new material for furniture, as seen across many of the different fairs and exhibitions in the London Design Festival, from James Shaw at Decorex to the focus as ‘Material of The Year’ at the London Design Fair at Truman’s Brewery with designs from Kodal Iwamote, Weez & Mart, Charlotte Kidger and Dirk Vander Kooij, plus the pop-up show PlasticScene in the Gasholders at King’s Cross showing what can be achieved,
All it needs is imagination, investment and forward-thinking Government policies to make the furniture ranges commercial and economically viable.
