With the art crowd invading London this week, the auction houses have stepped up to the mark with auctions of modern and contemporary art. While Christie’s has stellar works by David Hockney, Francis Bacon, Keith Haring, Anish Kapoor, Thomas Schutte and others, with a focus on Italian art alongside British, it also has more affordable works by Picasso, Grayson Perry and the like in its curated studio pottery show ‘Un/Breakable’.
It is a great pity that On Kawara died in 2014. With his work here focussed on August 31 1999, what would he have made of the Brexit date of March 29 2019 at 23.00 when the UK leaves, no matter what disaster or opportunity awaits us. What will it feel like to be in Britain on the 30th of March 2019? We will have to wait and see….
